Re: CoN - The Voyage of the Dawn Treader
Sun, June 15, 2008 - 7:23 PMSo I read this one last week. It had always been one of my favorites out of the seven books - this and The Magician's Nephew. And while I still enjoyed it this time (my first reading as an adult), it wasn't quite as good as I remembered. My mind clearly filled in all sorts of details that weren't actually there...I remember Scrubb's adventure as a dragon as a much longer chapter. As an adult, and probably spoiled by HP, it seemed so short and brief. Same with the monopods and the wizard.
Still though, great story!
Apparently, the author of Bridge to Terebithia realized later that she had likely chosen the name unthinkingly from this book and Lewis' Terebinthia Island. -

Yeah, they all read as really short to me. As a writer, it is really rough, because almost nobody can get away with short, sweet little fables anymore. People pay a lot for new books, and the publishers really want HP length.
I loved Eustace. He's such a crank.
